Janet is an independent consultant whose focus is leadership and coaching. Since her retirement from a Dallas-Ft. Worth suburban school district of 25,000 students as Director of Professional Development, she has worked with at-risk schools striving to succeed one student at a time. She believes there is an urgent need to do more as high standards continue to be set in closing the achievement gap.
Coaching is an integral part of several initiatives in which Janet is involved. Actions and answers need purposeful thought and a process in which to move forward for measurable success. This has been demonstrated with a job-embedded junior high school pilot for reading and coaching, a rural district moving from attitudes of generational poverty to status as a Recognized Texas district, and national work with at-risk schools needing to improve their reading scores.
Janet develops the synergy of collaboration with people challenged in analyzing data, forming action plans, reflecting on strengths and weaknesses, and celebrating successes as a path forward to individual and team growth.
As a graduate of NSDC's (now Learning Forward) Academy VII, Janet continues to serve through Texas Learning Forward Board of Directors. She received her BS from the University of Texas-Austin, MA from University of North Texas, and her mid-management and gifted certification from Texas Woman’s University.
